10 Super Tips for Getting a Job After College

4. Get Yourself A Mentor

Research has showed that the students who had mentors had a much better chance of getting hired over the ones who didn’t, so get yourself a mentor during your college years. This can be a professor, a family member, friend, or business person. What really matters is that they inspire the student to set goals and work to meet them, and that they encourage them to do their best. Having a mentor can make the job search smoother, especially if you can get one that works in your chosen field.

5. Use the college career services office

If your college has a career services office or a career counselor, then by all means use them! They can help with many job hunting tools such as showing you the best kinds of resumes, helping find and apply for jobs, write a cover letter, and help you learn how to get ready for a job interview. In some colleges they even bring potential employers into the classrooms to do job interviews with seniors. Plus, they may bring in people who work in various careers to talk to seniors about their job and these could be great contacts in helping you to get employed after college.
